Places to publish

Post by JL Zenor » Tue Oct 13, 2015 6:45 pm

This was originally Lena's idea that I finally decided to start working on. Even though there are thousands of places to publish, sometimes it is hard to find it all. So we will attempt to gather and organize that information here.

Novels Short Stories Self Publish
Legend
  • [1K] - Flash Fiction, ~1K words ish
  • [NUS] - No Unsolicited works, or at least you have to keep an eye out for their small windows where they accept unsolicited works.
  • [SF] - Science Fiction
  • [SFF] - Science Fiction & Fantasy

Here's what I use for my novels:

Hardcover - lulu.com
Paperback - createspace.com
e-Book - kdp.amazon.com (for amazon directly) and smashwords.com (for everything else, even if they're pretty finicky about it).

EDIT: Do we want to put this topic in the "Publishing" tab? Seems like this would be the perfect thing to start in that empty part of the forum.

I wasn't really looking for self pub, however, these resources will help as well. Didn't know about lulu. I'll add them.

Yeah, I might move it to that sub forum, if I decide to keep it. I had plans for it with this but I think it will make more sense to just keep it in one large topic and edit as we go.

Ah, I see. Noted and I'll keep an eye out for legitimate publishers out there.

No no, keep up all the good ideas. I'm willing to change my plans. :D Just because I know of the self pub places doesn't mean that info wouldn't be helpful in this list. As you can see, I already added it as a section. Thanks!

Wolfsinger Publications currently has SIX calls for submissions staggered throughout the next year. Several of these look interesting.

You're barking up my tree on this one :)

This has a list of SFWA qualifying novel publishers, anthology calls, and magazines (which means that they're well-established within the SF/F community, and for the magazines, they've survived at least one year and pay at least 6 cents/word.):

http://www.sfwa.org/about/join-us/sfwa- ... uirements/

And this is the list of currently Hugo eligible semiprozines. They vary in pay, but they also have all been around for at least one year.

http://semiprozine.org/semiprozine-directory/

I can throw a lot of more specifics at you when I get done with the days work, of course :) Or you can tell me to bugger off. Either way =D

Thanks for those resources! We'll make sure we check them out. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. We're a community trying to help each other, after all. :)

Don't forget there are places that you can use to search for markets to sell to, also.
